Dear friends,
It's been a busy few days in the news-to-share department. I'm curating these items for you (in the hope of saving you time), so just a brief note about each and the link.
There are several positive signs that Republicans are doing well going into the mid-term elections.
First, an important action item - Congress is in process of doing another Continuing Resolution for the budget. Contact your senators and tell them 'Pass a Clean CR bill to fund the government through January.' Allowing a CR vote in a lame duck session (after midterm election with Congress members who are out as of January) is completely asinine.
Good news – Keep the faith! Keep praying.
Fifth Circuit Rejects First Amendment Challenge to Texas Social Media Common Carrier Law (Full article)
In what could signal a major victory for free speech over Big Tech censorship, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court and upheld a Texas law barring social media sites from censoring users based on their viewpoints. Social media companies do not have the right to block people based on their viewpoints and use Section 230 as a shield. [Netchoice v. Paxton]
Polls
Polls may significantly undercount Republican voters and supporters of former President Donald Trump following President Joe Biden’s speech that attacked “MAGA Republicans” earlier this month, according to Trafalgar Group. (Full article)
Trafalgar Group chief pollster Robert Cahaly wrote on Sept. 17 that Biden’s speech will make it more difficult to survey or even estimate Trump-aligned voters than in prior years. “At this point, I think it’s fair to say that Biden’s pursuit of and attacks on ‘MAGA Republicans’ has created an army of voters who will be virtually impossible to poll (even for us) and more difficult still to estimate,” he wrote.
New Poll Delivers Some Alarming News For Democrats (Full article)
52% of voters said that they trust Republicans to manage the economy, compared to 38% for Democrats. The economy has been the most important issue to voters heading into the polls; in a July edition of the same NYT/Siena poll, 20% called it the “most important problem facing the country today,” while roughly 76% said that it would be “extremely important” to them as they vote.
New poll shows OREGON has a chance to elect a Republican as Governor for the first time in decades (Full article)
You know it's a tough year for Democrats when the wacky leftwing state of Oregon, dominated by the self-proclaimed weirdos in Portland, might be dumping the Dems in the governor's mansion. [Oregon has not elected a Republican governor since 1982].
