Hi friends,
The in-your-face headlines have been so big that the ones we’ve been missing may seem anti-climactic.
For example, after the firing of a Coast Guard admiral, multiple pardons, a big Department of Education announcement, etc., does this seem underwhelming, ‘House Republicans seek to close ‘loophole’ in 14th Amendment with Birthright Citizenship Act’ (1/23/2025)? You’ve probably heard that U.S. District Judge John Coughenour said Trump couldn’t do that by executive action. Of course, there’ll be all kinds of litigation. Experts will debate the fact of being born against the other listed ‘qualifications’. So, in the meantime, Representative Brian Babin of Texas spearheaded legislation that would restrict automatic citizenship to individuals born in the U.S. only if at least one parent is a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of the child's birth.
How big a deal has it been about student loan forgiveness for the last 4 years? And how many people saw this ‘What Trump and GOP lawmakers may have in store for student-loan borrowers’? (1/25/2025)
Oh. Abortion. The Supreme Court rightly moved the abortion law decisions back to the states. Trump said he’ll leave that alone though liberals are still concerned he will try to make a national ban on abortion. A Washington Examiner headline says ‘Trump begins a slow government withdrawal from abortion promotion’. (It’s behind a pay wall.) The official White House Fact Sheet, ‘Donald J. Trump Enforces Overwhelmingly Popular Demand to Stop Taxpayer Funding of Abortion‘, says ‘[F]or nearly five decades, Congress has enacted the Hyde Amendment and a series of additional laws to protect taxpayers from being forced to pay for abortion. Contrary to this longstanding commonsense policy, the previous administration embedded federal funding of elective abortion in a wide variety of government programs.‘ And not just for the USA, but Americans’ tax dollars have been funding abortions in other countries too - Talk about adding insult to injury... Here’s a preview of the Hyde Amendment; it’s not at all ambiguous.
Some ‘news’ is saying Trump is ditching his campaign pledge, but what did he actually say? I went back to October and found that he didn’t say he’d do nothing about abortion; he said this (10/13/2024). Something else to note, ‘The former president said earlier this month [October 2024] that he would veto a federal abortion ban if it came across his desk in the White House.‘
This one is kind of ho-hum: ‘Donald Trump fires independent inspectors general at 17 federal agencies’ (1/25/2025). They didn’t give 30 days notice is the complaint. I didn’t dig to learn the ‘rest of the story’. (Any Paul Harvey fans reading this?) Just another ‘not big’ headline.
Did Mexico refuse military flights, or not?
’Mexico refuses US military flight deporting migrants, sources say’ (1/25/2025)
Or maybe this. It’ll be interesting to see the next development.
’White House denies reports Mexico is refusing migrant flights’ (1/25/2025)
I don’t know about you, but I can’t yet decide if I’m in favor of changing the names - not that my opinion is worth anything.
‘Gulf of America name change now official’ (1/24/2025) ‘The Interior Department of President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday said it has officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and the Alaskan peak Denali to Mount McKinley.‘
Oh boy, this one will get pushback for sure. Censorship or dictatorship accusations maybe.
’Defense Department orders ‘pause’ of social media accounts’ (1/23/2025)
’The Defense Department said it needs time to review its social media programming to match “President Trump’s priorities on readiness, lethality and warfighting,” a senior U.S. defense official told the outlet in a statement. “This pause does not apply for content and imagery relative to the DOD’s current border security operations announced yesterday by Acting Secretary of Defense Robert G. Salesses.”’ It also excepts other critical areas.
God bless you, God bless President Trump and team, and God bless America!

There’s so much more to talk about of course. I’ll be sending you more in a day or two.
In the meantime, staying informed is just the first step. What happens next depends on us - everyday citizens who care about our country’s future. I encourage you to:
Take time to be informed, stay up to date. We’ve only accomplished Step 1.
Share information with friends and family. We need to bring back civil discourse.
Reach out to your representatives, local, state, and federal, to voice your support or concerns. If you haven’t heard, “All politics is local”, do realize that bad local politicians just move up the ladder. Don’t let them get a foot in the door.
The work of restoring our country and protecting our freedoms has only just begun. Let’s move forward together to continue the momentum to make America, health, and education great again.
