Dear friends,
I imagine most, if not all of you, are very aware of the following.
Opinion
Americans’ perceived freedom may be more illusory than real, with unseen forces manipulating societal structures and public perception.
For almost 250 years, Americans have prided themselves on living in the “land of the free,” believing our constitutional rights protect us from tyranny, that freedom is forever. But is it? Is the reality the same as the perception? With our busy lives, the day-to-day of work and family occupies our minds. Beneath the appearance of a smoothly-run country, there’s a complex web of government overreach, media manipulation, and algorithmic control. And, even beyond that, there are people whose goals are to direct government, and media, and business. Are those forces actually guiding our choices, creating an illusion of freedom rather than true freedom?
It makes me think of Shakespeare’s “All the World’s a Stage,” that much of what we experience is orchestrated behind the scenes. Is it all an illusion? How much is an illusion - or wishful thinking? Though Americans believe they live in a constitutional republic governed by laws designed for their benefit, the reality is that governmental control often supersedes individual liberties. We have come far from the Constitution’s foundation.
On paper, citizens appear free, and those who ‘guide’ and want to control, plan it that way. As long as we believe we are free, we are complacent. Calm sheep, trusting our shepherds to have our best interests at heart.
In reality, can governmental authorities limit freedoms as they see fit? This unwanted observation suggests that the government maintains an illusion of freedom, allowing citizens to feel autonomous while slyly exerting control over what they want us to know and to have, not to know and not to have. And we don’t realize and react - like the frog in the water slowly heating to a boil…
Algorithmic influence and information control. In the modern era, the manipulation of information through digital platforms has become a significant means of control. Social media algorithms, designed to pull us in, to play on our emotions, regardless of its truthfulness. We’ve seen how this can create echo chambers, reinforcing existing beliefs and skewing public perception. The concentration of information sources in the hands of Big Media and social media allows people to be spoon-fed narratives and to influence public opinion. We know now that even the tech moguls have been, and perhaps are being, controlled.
The COVID-19 pandemic provides a good example of governmental overreach. Lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine requirements were implemented, supposedly to curb the virus’s spread. In addition to ruining businesses and lives, these actions infringed upon personal freedoms and were used to expand governmental authority. Reports have emerged that health agencies, like the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), spent significant funds on campaigns that may have overstated the virus’s risks to certain populations, attempting to justify stringent control measures. I call it fear mongering.
Many Americans are unaware of the extent to which our perceptions and behaviors are controlled. Control mechanisms pushed into our daily lives—whether technology, media, public health policies, etc.—can lead to compliance with directives that are unlikely to be in our best interests.
This unawareness allows for the perpetuation of control without significant resistance, as people believe they are acting out of free will when, in fact, their choices have been subtly manipulated.
While the United States is founded on principles of freedom and individual, God-given rights, I submit to you that there is a complex interplay between perceived liberties and underlying controls. The combination of government authority, technological influence, information manipulation, and fear has created an environment where freedom exists more as an ideal than as an absolute reality.
Recognizing and and fighting these attempts is essential for genuine freedom and autonomy.
The fight for real freedom is never-ending.
Complacency is our biggest enemy.
God bless you, God bless President Trump and team, and God bless America!
Stay calm - President Trump is a businessman who operates strategically, and not everything will make sense at first. His plan to shrink government and Make America Great Again is a process, not an overnight fix. Trust the long game, not just the headlines.
