The midterm elections of 2022 are over - kind of. Results are not final. Many of us have questions. Among the most common questions is: Why can’t ballots be counted and results announced in a timely fashion?
There is some good news. For the first time in a long time, Republicans won the popular vote. That too raises questions. Understanding the Electoral College is a bit of a challenge, and why are people fighting for the popular vote movement, doing away with the Electoral College, and talking about ranked choice voting?
It’s likely the Republicans will control the House of Representatives. That’s one place confusion and the unknown come into being. Shouldn’t it already be known? What the heck has happened to America’s elections? The longer it takes, the more doubt people have about the ‘free and fair’ process.
The winners will, of course, say it was the most free and fair election ever in the history of America. The losers will almost certainly claim election fraud.
So, I don’t have all those answers, but I do have some positive information.
Having a majority in the House is a big deal! It may not seem like much, but the Speaker wields a lot of control. The House holds the purse strings too. This article was very helpful to me, What You Need to Know About GOP Leadership Elections. See the press release (16 minutes) video with Speaker of the House-elect, Kevin McCarthy, "The Era of One-Party Rule Is Over".
Also, more conservatives than ever are getting engaged. Organizations are growing and adding programs and fundraising efforts to support conservatives. For example, CPAC Foundation has four Centers including the First Amendment Fund. To see CPAC ratings for Texas, click here.
Heritage Action for America has recently kicked off the new Super PAC: Sentinel Action Fund. Their focus is on Seven Policy Priorities to Fight for America’s Future. You can also check out their Scorecard.
In addition to CPAC and Heritage, more organizations are doing more to help inform and train conservatives. Leadership Institute has dozens (maybe 100’s) of classes, and many are free. I especially liked their grassroots training, the Ground Up Activism Series. For a list of upcoming trainings, start here. Sign up for their emails and get updates on trainings and more.
Active participation is vital for conservatives to succeed. Your involvement is more important than you realize! Precinct Strategy is a good resource and helps explain the importance and the critical need.
Politics is slow. It can take several cycles to see major changes. This most recent election is just the first step in turning the tide. We won a battle, and the war continues. Fighting for freedom is ongoing; it never ends. Being complacent is part of why things got to where they are today. Too many of us - me included - were taking it for granted that America was fine and running on automatic pilot.
There are many ways to be engaged. One of my personal favorites is being a Sentinel with Heritage Action for America. A weekly 30-minute phone call updates me on the most important current items and often gives me an action item. Very informative, effective, and time-friendly. In addition to the above, you can learn about how ESG Hurts. Basically, it’s more digital incursions to your privacy and more government control with possible digital currency on the horizon, which means even more digital incursions to your privacy and more government control, similar to China’s social credit score. Here’s an article from The Hill. Biden has already signed an executive order in March titled ‘Executive Order on Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Assets’. If you can translate gobbledygook, let me know. But, for starters, look to Section 4 to see that digital currency is included and to the definitions under Section 9 to see the words ‘central bank digital currency’. Wikipedia says this. What these central banks appear to have in common is that they are all government banks. Take that for what you will. This Hult.edu article is very interesting with some good vs bad points. (I can’t imagine why, but if you want to read the 40-page ‘Money and Payments: The U.S. Dollar in the Age of Digital Transformation’ report, click here.)
Climate theories abound. Is there really a climate crisis? Is the threat just another weapon to control people? Without going into a debate, and whatever your thoughts are, there’s no doubt that the extreme green measures proposed and being taken are causing hardships for people all over the world (except the rich). Food shortages and lack of adequate heat are seriously adversely affecting many, and likely coming to a location near you. I want to recommend Stephen J. Bolen’s book, “The Coming Dark Age: The Impact of the War to Ban Fossil Fuels”. I’ve heard Stephen speak twice on some of the information in his book, and it is very enlightening.
So… My take is that freedoms are being limited more and more by government including regulatory agencies - all purporting to be for our own good, and I want to be informed, not follow blindly.
Back to elections - It’s extremely crucial that Herschel Walker wins in Georgia. If you can help out financially or by making calls, etc., that would be terrific! His website has more details, and here’s the mailing address for donations: Team Herschel, PO Box 501707, Atlanta, GA 31150.
Senators Manchin and Sinema voted against a couple of the Biden administration’s worst bills, but Manchin, in particular, will cave to pressure, so Herschel is super important to help hold the line on the most egregious items. Doing away with the filibuster would be a nightmare and give the Democrats an open door to federalizing elections, possibly the biggest concern. Limiting spending is a major issue going forward too.
Another way to be engaged is to learn about and support County Citizens Defending Freedom - especially if you are in one of the ‘hot’ counties right now. Check out their website and subscribe to be an ‘Ambassador’. You can find active and future counties here.
There are plenty of things to talk about - the budget, same sex marriage, illegal immigration/open borders, election integrity, education/school choice, parent empowerment, medical freedom, sexualizing children, and those are topics for another day.
I encourage you to reach out to your representatives and senators, both state and U.S. Let them know your thoughts on how to vote to represent you. The more we stand up and speak out, the better America will be, and the better We the People will be represented.
Keep up the fight!
Until next time…
